RAISING THE ROOF
In total we raised £2226.17 in 2017 so sincere thanks from the Trustees for supporting our Raising the Roof events. We hope you had fun in celebrating our 20th birthday and helping to raise much needed funds.
The fund raising efforts to provide a new roof for the Centre continue apace..... our total now being over £6000, thanks to contributions from the Traders Calendar, the Coop, Luscombe Maye and the various fund raising events in 2017 and continuing throughout 2018 and beyond taking place in the Centre. Keep a look out for details of forthcoming events !
We recently received a cheque from the local Coop store for just over £2950 during a day long in store celebration…….the Trustees were delighted to receive such a generous amount from the Coop and to learn that we have again been chosen as one of three local charities to benefit from this fundraising effort during 2019. The Centre is one of the beneficiaries of £19 million pounds the Coop has given away nationally, based on proceeds of plastic bag sales and from a percentage of sales from local customers picking the charity as their preferred recipient of a percentage of sales.
Our sincere thanks go to the Coop for this generous support ! Don't forget to go online if you have a Coop members card and choose South Brent Old School Community Centre as your nominated local charity...it would be much appreciated !
We still have a long way to go to raise in excess of £100,000 and the Trustees are always looking for funding sources; you may know one we've missed so please speak to the Centre Manager, Glyn if you have any bright ideas !

NEW TRUSTEES AND VOLUNTEERS WANTED
The Old School Community Centre is this year celebrating 20 years of having been saved for the community and grown into a most invaluable and much loved Centre. But all of this has not happened without hundreds, if not thousands of man hours in working tirelessly to keep this building as accessible and vibrant as it can be for every age group. Considering it has the South Brent Children’s Clubs and South Brent Caring under it’s roof it truly is a “full lifetime facility“.
Are you looking to become more involved in your community as the Old School Community Centre needs an injection of new life blood! Would you like to support the new Action Plan, taking forward the Charity Review 2016 feedback and enhancing this invaluable and much loved community asset?
The number of Trustees has dropped and so the Centre needs YOU to help it continue it’s success story. If you are interested and wish to find out more about becoming a Trustee contact Mike Baines, Vice-Chair of Trustees on 01364 72559.
If being a Trustee is not what you want to commit to, can we now form a “Friends of the Community Centre”; a bank of volunteers who are there to help in all aspects of the Centre’s day to day life? Drop in and see Glyn, who is the part time manager working weekday mornings from 8.30 am – 12.30 am, let him know you are interested and we can set up a friendly chat with a couple of current Trustees. And please spread the word!!
SUPPORT THE CENTRE ....BECOME A MEMBER OR FRIEND OF THE CENTRE.
The minimum subscriptions are........Individual: £2 per year (Unwaged: £1 per year); Family £5 per year and Life Membership available at £50
Please complete an application form available in the Centre and pass it to the Centre Manager OR better still why not set up a standing order (Click HERE to download a form).
If you use online banking then it is even easier to set up a standing order to pay South Brent Old School Community Centre Ltd annually (Sort code: 30-94-58 Account No : 27720268)

Sustainable South Brent have installed a "Bike Bank" in the car park to the rear of the Old School House, the big green steel box ! The Bike Bank aims to provide free, week-long lease bikes to encourage people in South Brent.
The bikes are ideal for new riders as they are easy to use and well suited to Devon as they are light and with plenty of gears for those hills. Each lease includes helmet, gloves and lights as well as a support pack full of advice, tips for new cyclists, links to cycling organisations in the area and maps
